There will be another week of thrilling action across Europe with a number of games taking place over the Halloween weekend. But, which soccer predictions should bettors be making for some of the most important games taking place this weekend?
Borussia Monchengladbach vs RB Leipzig
One of the biggest games to be taking place in Germany this weekend will see two sides towards the top of the Bundesliga meet. But, which of the two sides will be able to claim the three points in this fixture?
RB Leipzig have started the season in excellent form in the Bundesliga, and they are one of just two teams with an unbeaten record at present. Leipzig have won four of their five fixtures in the Bundesliga so far, and they have the second-best defensive record. Their advantage at the top of the league table is a slim one, as they are just one point clear of Bayern Munich. Leipzig will come into this fixture having won their last three in the league. The most recent of those wins was a hard-fought success against Hertha Berlin. Leipzig fell behind in that fixture after eight minutes, but managed to turn the game in their favour after goals from Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer.
Borussia Monchengladbach will also come into this fixture having won their last game, as they beat Mainz 3-2. It was an excellent fightback by Monchengladbach in that fixture, as they trailed 2-1 at half time. Jonas Hofmann levelled the scored for Gladbach in that game, before Matthias Ginter scored the winning goal with just under ten minutes remaining. This will be a difficult fixture against Leipzig this weekend, and we expect the travelling side to get the win.
Athletic Bilbao vs Sevilla
Two sides that have started the season slowly in LaLiga will meet this weekend, as Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao will both be looking to get back to winning ways. The aim for both teams will be a European finish this season, but they will need to improve on what they have shown so far this campaign.
It has been a disappointing start to the season for Sevilla this term, as they have won just twice in five league games. The reigning Europa League champions would have been targeting a Champions League place this season, but they will need to improve on what they have shown so far this season. They will come into this fixture having failed to win in their last three games, while they have lost their last two. The most recent of those defeats was a 1-0 defeat at home to Eibar.
Athletic Bilbao are a couple of places below Sevilla in the league table, as they have won just twice in six league games so far. Like Sevilla, Bilbao were also beaten in their last fixture in La Liga. Bilbao were beaten 1-0 by Osasuna last time out, but they did win their last fixture before that game. Sevilla will need to turn their season around if they want to finish in the top-four and we expect them to start doing that this weekend with a win away from home against Bilbao.
Manchester United vs Arsenal
Manchester United vs Arsenal is one of the biggest fixtures in the Premier League, with the two clubs having dominated the top-flight in England throughout the modern era. Both clubs are in a different position these days, but it remains a fixture that many look forward to.
United have started the season in inconsistent form, but they will be aware that a run of good results would lift them back into the battle for a top-four finish. The Red Devils will take confidence from the fact that they are unbeaten in three, and have famously beaten Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League. However, United were held in their last fixture in the Premier League by Chelsea, which means that this season is the first since the 1972-73 season that United have started the season without a win in their first three home league games.
Arsenal will also be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend, as they were beaten in their last game in the Premier League against Leicester City. Jamie Vardy was once again the player to separate the sides, as he scored his 11th goal against the Gunners. Arsenal have now lost their last two in the Premier League, and will be keen to get back to winning ways to get closer to the top-four.
This should be an entertaining fixture between two sides that will be aiming to finish in the top four. The preference this weekend will be for a win for Manchester United.
Sampdoria vs Genoa
The biggest game of the season for Genoa and Sampdoria takes place this weekend, as the first Derby della Lanterna takes place at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
Sampdoria will come into the derby in excellent form, as they have won three of their past five league matches. Over that run of form, Sampdoria have won against Fiorentina, Lazio and Atalanta. The latter of those was their last game, as they ran out 3-1 winners away from home. Fabio Quagliarella, Morten Thorsby and Jakub Jankto scored the goals in that win.
Meanwhile, Genoa have been in disappointing form over the past couple of weeks, as they haven’t won in three games in Serie A. They will come into this weekend’s derby after being beaten in their last match against Inter Milan. Genoa were very disappointing in that 2-0 defeat, as they failed to register a single shot on target. Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D’Ambrosio scored the goals in the win for Inter.
Both sides have been in contrasting form over the past couple of weeks, and for that reason, it is hard to bet against Sampdoria winning the Derby della Lanterna.
