It looks set to be another huge week of action around Europe, with fascinating fixtures taking place in the Premier League, LaLiga and the Bundesliga. Gamblers will be able to find the best soccer predictions for the biggest games below.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool
Liverpool’s Premier League season is hanging in the balance ahead of their trip to the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening. Their dwindling hopes of regaining the title look to be fading with every passing week at present, and another defeat against Spurs could mean that they could go nine points behind the league leaders.
It has been a difficult season for Jurgen Klopp, and injuries to Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk certainly haven’t helped their chances. However, it has been their attacking output that has really let them down this season. It could be the case of just the Reds dropping off the pace that they have set over the past 18 months, but there certainly looks to be low confidence in the front three. Roberto Firmino has been the most disappointing of those, as he has scored just five goals in 19 games.
Tottenham could go above the reigning champions with a win on Thursday. Spurs have been able to recover from a shaky period over recent league outings, as they are now unbeaten in four. They won their last Premier League game against Sheffield United, with Serge Aurier, Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele among the scorers in that victory. Fans will be expecting another defensive setup by Jose Mourinho against one of the top sides in the league.
Liverpool need to get back to winning ways in the league, and there were enough positives in their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United to indicate that they will get the win in this game.
Arsenal vs Manchester United
One of the biggest games in English soccer takes place on Saturday evening, as Manchester United will look to continue their excellent league form with a victory against Arsenal.
Manchester United are unbeaten in 13 league games, which is the best record of any team in Europe’s top leagues. Their last defeat in the Premier League came back at the beginning of November against Arsenal at Old Trafford. Since that defeat, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been able to get the very best from his team, and that has been highlighted by their position in the league table. United are top of the league, and have a two-point advantage over City at present. A win at the Emirates this weekend would see them firmly arrive in the fight for the title.
Arsenal’s league form has improved over recent weeks, and they could have an outside chance of re-entering the fight for a Europa League place in the second half of the season. The Gunners are unbeaten in five league outings, and that has seen them rise from 16th to eleventh in the table. Arsenal were dominant in their recent Premier League win against Newcastle United, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace.
Solskjaer’s side will be able to show how far they have come since November at the Emirates. United are a side in peak form at present, with star players such as Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford all playing their best football of the season. The Red Devils would be our pick to win this fixture.
RB Leipzig vs Bayer Leverkusen
RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are the two sides currently in the title fight with Bayern Munich. However, disappointing results for both sides have enabled the Bavarian giants to open up a gap at the top of the league table. Both sides will need to win this game on the weekend, with a draw being an unhelpful result for both teams.
Leipzig managed to get within touching distance of Bayern a couple of weeks ago, but a run of one win in four has allowed the league leaders to open up a seven-point gap. Leipzig were beaten for the second time in six game last time out, as they fell to a defeat against Mainz. Tyler Adams and Marcel Halstenberg scored for Leipzig in that defeat.
Like Leipzig, Leverkusen were also beaten in their most recent Bundesliga fixture. Defeat against Wolfsburg means that they have now lost four in their last six outings, and has opened up a ten-point difference between themselves and top spot. Any hopes of them winning the league look to be all-but over, but they still face a fight to finish in a Champions League position.
This could be a cagey fixture between second and third in the Bundesliga, but a draw will help neither side. Leipzig should have the quality to make home advantage count and claim the three points.
Villarreal vs Real Sociedad
Villarreal and Real Sociedad are the two sides in LaLiga that are currently occupying the Europa League spots. Both sides have struggled for wins over recent weeks, but they will need to pick up maximum points to make sure that those chasing a top-six place can’t close the gap.
Real Sociedad have been faltering over recent weeks, as they have failed to reach the heights that they set in the early months of the season. They have won just once in six, and have been beaten on three occasions. Sociedad come into this game on the road without a win in three, as they were held last time out by Real Betis.
Villarreal are also without a win in two games, but they are unbeaten in four LaLiga fixtures. They were able to get a draw in their last game in the league against Huesca. They needed to settle for a 0-0 draw in that game, which was the correct result, as neither side managed to create a single clear cut chance in the contest.
Sociedad are in free-fall at present, and they will need to end their disappointing run of form soon to finish in a European place. However, we don’t think that they will get the win this weekend, as the preference is for Villarreal.
